If you've decided to get a vinyl fence for your backyard, you may wonder about the installation process. While you might install a vinyl fence yourself if you have DIY skills, you can hire a fence contractor to do the work and order the correct supplies. If you don't have a fence at all yet, you may need to clear your yard in the area where the fence will go.

This might include pulling out weeds, shrubs, and plants that will be in the way of the fence. You might also need to have a survey done on your property. The fence installer will let you know if you need to do anything to prepare for the vinyl fence installation. Here's a quick look at the process.

Get A Quote For The Work

Start by having a fencing contractor come to your property and measure the length of your fence line. This enables them to calculate the amount of each material you'll need so you'll get an accurate quote. You'll also need to decide where you want to put the gates and the type and size of the gates you want.

If you'll pull a boat or drive an RV through the gates, you want to make sure large gates are installed. Once you get the quote for the work, you can sign the contract, and discuss when the work will begin. The contractor orders supplies and you wait for the work to start.

Put The Posts In First

Vinyl fence installation begins with putting posts in the ground. Then the fence pickets and rails are attached to the posts, so the posts need to be securely sunk into the ground. This is done by digging holes, adding gravel, setting the posts in the holes, and then pouring in concrete. Once the concrete has cured, the posts will be strong and secure. The contractor may wait a day or so after pouring in the concrete to start building the fence.

Build The Vinyl Fence

A vinyl fence is one of the easiest types of fencing to install. There's not a lot of nailing and other difficult work. Instead, the pickets and rails fit together like puzzle pieces. The fence posts come with holes in the top and bottom that the rails slide into. The bottom rail is put in first.

The pickets are placed side-by-side on the bottom rail to build a panel between two posts. Then the top rail fits over the top of the pickets and slides into the holes along the top of the posts to lock everything in place. This makes a vinyl fence installation job fairly easy once the holes are dug and the posts are in.

Install Gates

Gates are fairly easy to install too. You may need to add an insert to the post where the hinges are added to give the post additional strength. After that, the door panel is attached with hinges and a lock is added to keep the gate closed securely.
